Hi Mikey,
Sorry for the delay in replying on this subject. I first wanted to get an expert to answer your question more accurately and then, I missplaced the comment advisory e-mail.
Shumway Marshall, a spokesperson for Equality California writes:
This is a common (and important) question!

One of the things the Supreme court will be deciding is if the marriages that happened between June and November will still be valid...so far state officials have said they will remain valid, including the attorney general whose office will be arguing the case.

In terms of protections granted by the state, there is not much difference between domestic partnerships, civil unions and marriage. However, marriage carries much more cultural significance. Anything else is a second system and therefore, a unequal. There are many protections and rights afforded on the federal level, such as the right to file join state income taxes and the right to sponsor a partner to immigrate to the US that are afforded to same-sex couples.

For more information about the differences, check out http://www.letcaliforniaring.org/site/c.ltJTJ6MQIuE/b.3348081/k.B080/Facts.htm

I hope this answeres your question."

Some of these are really surprising. Wouldn't La Quinta want more marriages to cater? Wouldn't Fisher Price want more gay couples who could spoil their adopted kids with plastic shit?

That might work. To your point, I agree that religions don't have to marry anyone. My Dad remarried but the Catholic Church won't recognize it until the annulment papers are filed... whateva. But no one can deny "personal" freedoms. Even the Bible says people have free will. Ya know?

Keep up the good work man (coming from a straight man in Ohio) you guys deserve equal rights, and unlike most of America you're willing to fight for them. I respect, and applaud that.

I'm fortunate that I was able to vote absentee in California, and will be back in Santa Cruz by the end of the evening on Election Day...it'll be a refreshing change from the doldrums of Kansas.
