Campus OUT week

Besides a chance to attain a post-secondary education, college independence often offers a haven for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth to freely express their sexuality. Each year campuses around the world celebrate this freedom, Oct. 11, during National Coming Out Day, showcasing their commitment to diverse a ensuring a supportive climate. Oct. 11 was chosen in 1988 to commemorate the prior year’s March on Washington (D.C) for Lesbian and Gay Rights. Cal State Long Beach’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Resource Center not only is observing the day but also is hosting a full week of public education events designed to promote awareness to and for LGBT and non-LGBT students and staff. Events include: 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Monday, Oct. 6 “Safe and Sexy”: A workshop on healthy sexual relationships at the University Student Union, Room 205. 

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Tuesday, Oct. 7Becoming Visible: a panel presentation on coming out as bisexual or sexually fluid at USU Room 205. 

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Wednesday, October 8Out on Campus: a panel presentation with LGBT Staff and Faculty at USU Room 205..  

Noon - 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 9Student Open Microphone and Community Resource Fair at the Friendship Walk near the University Bookstore, which will include “OUTlist 2008” listing names of LGBT and heterosexual ally students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
